Lake Hüttwil, Lake Nussbaum and Lake Hasensee are nestled between the hills of the Seerücken and the Thur valley in the Thurgau Seebachtal. The three lakes are a natural jewel of national importance, with several bathing and barbecue areas on their renaturalized shores. Tip: The "Seebachtal nature paradise" hike leads from the Haag winery in Hüttwilen around the Hüttwiler and Nussbaumersee lakes.
The Bommer Weiher ponds are a treasured and wonderfully green recreational area at any time of year. The Thurgau cantonal government once stated that the Bommer Weiher landscape was "one of the most beautiful of its kind in the canton of Thurgau ". The entire pond area is now a nature reserve and an important habitat for water birds and amphibians. Fire pits invite you to have a picnic. Tip: The Planet Trail leads via the Bommer Weiher nature reserve to Kreuzlingen and the Lake Constance Planetarium.
The Hochrhein meanders from Stein am Rhein down to Schaffhausen through unspoiled nature. The view of the unspoilt river landscape from the water offers ideal conditions for lasting memories. Tip: Experience the Rhine landscape on a boat trip with the URh from Kreuzlingen to Schaffhausen.
Lake Bichelsee in Hinterthurgau is a true pearl of a lake. Nestled in the gentle hilly landscape, Bichelsee, which is lined with pond lilies, is an insider tip among nature lovers. Tip: The Bichelsee lido with its kiosk-restaurant is a popular destination for cyclists and hikers. There is a children's pool for the little ones to splash around in.
The five ponds near Hauptwil were created for fish farming in the 15th century. Today, these waters are protected and are of supra-regional importance. Tip: The 11th stage of the Thurgau circular hiking trail leads past all five ponds between Hauptwil and Amriswil.
To the south-east of Frauenfeld, a nature reserve with extraordinary landscapes stretches across the Immenberg. Thousands of orchids bloom in the sparse forest every year, with a total of 26 different species having been identified. Tip: The Lustdorf panorama trail leads over the Immenberg through forests protected by the Federal Inventory.
The Lengwil ponds between Kreuzlingen and Lengwil form one of Pro Natura Thurgau's largest protected areas. The diversity of the ponds, the large forests criss-crossed by streams, the fens and the traffic-free location offer every opportunity for an excursion close to nature. If you're lucky, you might spot a family of beavers in the early evening hours.
The Hudelmoos nature reserve, three kilometers above Amriswil, is home to a rich variety of plant and animal species, making it a hotspot of biodiversity. The raised bog of national importance can be experienced up close via several paths. Tip: Not far from the Hudelmoos, the Hagenwil moated castle invites you to eat and drink in its historic rooms.
