Beautiful places to linger

Pause and enjoy. This is particularly easy to do in the green expanses of the canton of Lake Constance. The gentle landscape and rural idyll of Thurgau can be admired on the banks of the Rhine, on a boat trip across Lake Constance, in the nature reserve or from one of the many viewing towers. The excursion possibilities are as numerous as they are varied.

The 270-metre-long jetty for the large passenger ships of the Swiss Lake Constance Navigation Company offers an enchanting panoramic view of Lake Constance and the surrounding shoreline. Both locals and guests are impressed by the impressive platform and affectionately refer to the jetty as the "horizontal Eiffel Tower of Lake Constance". Altnau's landmark becomes particularly atmospheric in the dark, when ground lights transform the footbridge into a glowing street of light.
The Amriswil trade tower is located in the south of Amriswil on the Schollenberg. At its highest point, 497 meters above sea level, the Amriswil Trade Association erected the 19-meter-high wooden observation tower to mark its 100th anniversary. It offers a wonderful view of Amriswil and the surrounding region as far as Lake Constance. Nearby is the picturesque moated castle of Hagenwil, one of the best-preserved moated castles in Switzerland, with an excellent restaurant. Well worth a visit!
Lake Constance, the third largest lake in Central Europe, with its pretty fishing villages, steel-blue water and unspoiled nature, is the perfect place for a mini-cruise. But also in combination with a bike tour or hike, a boat trip is a wonderful way to round off your Lake Constance experience.
To take a good photo, you sometimes have to climb high - in the truest sense of the word: the viewing platform of the 36-metre-high Napoleon Tower near Wäldi can only be reached by climbing 200 steps. But the view is all the more rewarding. In good weather, you can enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the countryside, lake and Alps. The nearby Napoleon Museum tells fascinating stories about Queen Hortense, her son, the last emperor of France, Napoleon III, and his wife Eugénie. It's well worth a detour!
The Bommer Weiher ponds are a treasured and wonderfully green recreational area at any time of year. The Thurgau cantonal government once stated that the Bommer Weiher landscape was "one of the most beautiful of its kind in the canton of Thurgau ". The entire pond area is now a nature reserve and an important habitat for water birds and amphibians. Fire pits invite you to have a picnic.
High up on Frauenfeld's local mountain "Stählibuck" stands the eponymous steel lattice tower, the Stählibuck Tower. It is one of the oldest of its kind in Switzerland. Those who climb the 27 meters and 148 steps of the tower are rewarded with a wonderful view from the Vorarlberg to the Bernese Alps. And if you've worked up an appetite on the climb, there are cozy barbecue areas waiting for you at the foot of the tower. Various idyllic hiking trails lead to the Stählibuck Tower, such as the Mühletobel forest nature trail.
Lake Hüttwil, Lake Nussbaum and Lake Hasensee are nestled between the hills of the Seerücken and the Thur valley in the Thurgau Seebachtal. The three lakes are a natural jewel of national importance, with several bathing and barbecue areas on their renaturalized shores. The "Seebachtal nature paradise" hike takes you around Lake Hüttwil and Lake Nussbaumersee.
The Hochrhein meanders through unspoiled nature from Stein am Rhein via Diessenhofen down to Schaffhausen. The stretch from Diessenhofen to Schaffhausen, with the Untersee and Rhine shipping company, is considered to be one of the most beautiful river cruises in Europe. The view of the unspoilt river landscape from the water is an invitation to daydream. If you would like to extend the boat trip, you can board in Kreuzlingen and start your journey along the picturesque Untersee.
