Does your daughter know where the milk she buys at the Coop comes from? Has the grandson ever stroked a rabbit, handed the Barbary macaque a popcorn through the fence or seen an energetic horse perform leaps in the pasture? Animals are the greatest thing for children. Here is a compilation of the best animal experiences in Thurgau.

The Plättli Zoo has been an integral part of Frauenfeld since 1958. It exhibits around 50 animal species from all over the world. From rabbits and lions to kangaroos and Barbary macaques, there is something for all explorers young and old. As the motto here is "small but beautiful", Plättli Zoo is a popular excursion destination for families in particular. The walking distances are manageable. You can get very close to the animals and feed them popcorn on the tour. A barbecue area, an exciting playground and a family-friendly restaurant round off the offer.
With the support of Pro Specia Rara, the Seeburgpark Kreuzlingen animal park has specialized in keeping and breeding old domestic animal breeds that have almost disappeared and aims to bring visitors closer to animals and nature again. Here you can meet goats, Engadine sheep, Swiss chickens and rabbits. The animals can be pampered with food from the park. Rare native birds, whose natural habitats are becoming increasingly scarce, live in aviaries. The animal park is located in the largest public nature adventure park on Lake Constance, the Seeburgpark Kreuzlingen. It stretches for two and a half kilometers along the shores of Lake Constance. Little whirlwinds can let off steam in the extensive and varied playground.
In addition to camels, llamas and alpacas, the Olmerswil camel farm is home to various other small animals, birds and various desert-dwelling terrarium animals. The farm can be visited free of charge and offers a range of animal activities by prior arrangement, such as camel rides (from the age of 6), llama trekking, overnight stays in a Mongolian yurt (up to 4 people) and adventure tours with intensive animal contact, as well as a desert and reptile exhibition.
The idyllically situated horse and donkey farm in Eschenz is home to 16 horses, 17 donkeys, 16 tame Valais black-nosed sheep, two Kune Kune pigs and two cats. Riding and horse fans get their money's worth here. Children can ride out with the horses or groom and care for the donkeys and take them for walks in the forest. You can also help out with stable work, such as mucking out. Another highlight at Grünegg is a carriage ride over the Seerücken with two mighty cold-blooded horses. A vacation apartment offers overnight accommodation for guests who want to stay longer.
Located between Säntis and Lake Constance in Rottwil in green Thurgau , the Tannacker organic farm is home to Haflinger horses, donkeys, dairy cows, chickens, a dog, cats and an apiary. Children's riding vacations on the organic farm are particularly popular. Riding, stable work, animal and material care are part of the daily program for interested helpers. They are rewarded with extended rides in beautiful terrain along country lanes through orchards, nature reserves, wild river landscapes and vast forests. The little ones learn how to ride and interact with humans and animals in a playful way.
Surrounded by orchards, the Feierlenhof is quietly situated above the village of Altnau. The view of the lake and Vorarlberg mountains is just as enchanting as the everyday farm life on a fruit farm, which can be experienced here. The farm dog Felix, ponies, chickens, peacocks, goats and cats look forward to being stroked. Children can feed the chickens, look after the small animals and groom the ponies. Reward? One free guided pony ride for vacation guests staying five nights or more. If you would like to stay longer, there are three vacation apartments of different sizes available.
The Tschannen farm is surrounded by greenery on the edge of the village of Illighausen with a magnificent view of Lake Constance. Animal lovers can help the hospitable Tschannen family feed the cattle or rabbits, groom the horses or collect the hens' eggs. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can stroke the farmyard pets or watch the pigs and rabbits. Various guest rooms are available for overnight stays. Children's birthday parties can also be organized and the farmyard with its various toys, slides and sand piles is the perfect place to let off steam.
