Thurgau Tourism wants it sustainable

Thurgau Tourism wants to preserve the natural treasures of the region, maintain the cultural heritage that gives the canton its identity and operate in a socially responsible and sustainable manner. To achieve this, we participate in various sustainability initiatives and programs.

We have been a Swisstainable member since the end of 2021 and proudly at level II, "engaged", since 2024! We are still convinced of Switzerland Tourism's sustainability program. It recognizes tourism businesses that are committed to greater sustainability in their day-to-day work. For Level l, Thurgau Tourism employees have been provided with calls to action and compasses for a more sustainable way of working. For Level ll, we want to develop these tools further, inform our members and partners about Swisstainable and get them on board.

Cause We Care!

Although we try to minimize our impact on the environment and our climate, climate-damaging greenhouse gases are produced during a stay in Thurgau . Since spring 2023, our guests have therefore been paying a small climate contribution of 1.2 percent on services purchased via our booking platform. As a thank you, Thurgau Tourism is doubling this amount. A portion goes to the climate protection organization myclimate, which uses it to support an international climate protection project. Three-quarters of the fund goes directly to environmental protection in the vacation region: we use it to support the Around the Bodensee CleanUp.

Working together: Around the Lake Constance CleanUp
With immense personal commitment, Noemi Solombrino runs this environmental education project and organized around 50 guided CleanUps in 2023 with almost 1,800 participants who collected almost 15,000 liters of garbage on the shores of Lake Constance. Now TGT is also involved! Let's keep our greatest tourist asset clean together: nature, Lake Constance.

Strengthen knowledge: Recognizing and avoiding microplastics in Lake Constance
Microplastics are an invisible but serious threat to our waters - including Lake Constance. The tiny plastic particles enter the environment in a variety of ways, for example through cosmetic products, clothing or tire abrasion, where they cause long-term damage. To raise awareness of this issue, the Lake Constance Foundation has developed an interactive microplastics quiz. It conveys knowledge about causes, consequences and possible courses of action in a fun way.

Clean shores for everyone: Thurgau Tourism is involved in the Lake Constance CleanUp.
We want tourism for everyone. And we believe that the Thurgau region is a wonderful excursion destination for people who are dependent on aids such as walking aids, wheelchairs or baby carriages. The landscape is flat to gently undulating at most. That's why we became a member of OK:GO. This initiative helps tourism providers in Switzerland to record and publish information on the accessibility of their offers. This makes it easier for people with disabilities, older people and families with small children to plan their trips and invites them to visit Thurgau.
