Off to the Lake Constance Pirate School

There is a very special school on Lake Constance: the world's first pirate school! Between Kreuzlingen and Schaffhausen, the region becomes a big adventure playground for young and old pirate fans. Always on board: pirate mascot Zaus and pirate Huberta. The Lutz family with Olivia (5), Mara (7) and Silvan (9) tried out the pirate school and tell us about their exciting experience.

Aye, aye: that's the point
Strictly speaking, the pirate school is a game. At various excursion destinations on Lake Constance, tricky tasks await our budding pirates as they learn the skills of real pirates. As a reward, pirate figures, items and gold coins are collected using the web app. Once they have collected enough treasures such as swords or flags, the apprentices receive a diploma and move on to the next class. That is our goal!
Ahoy Seeburgpark
The Seeburgpark is located directly at the port of Kreuzlingen, where we later board the boat. Even without the pirate school, the park would be beautiful: a petting zoo, mini golf course, a great adventure playground and even a castle surrounded by lush greenery and the blue of Lake Constance. But we are there to start our pirate journey. After registering online, we can see on the treasure map of the Pirate School app where to look for gold doubloons, find treasure chests and solve puzzles.

"The Pirate School turns little adventurers into brave pirates."

Arrr on land
The large climbing ship at the entrance to the park is the dry training ground for water-shy young pirates. This is where the pirate school practises everything you need to be able to do on a ship, but on land. The climbing frame is boarded with loud shouts. The task: find secret symbols, set the right course with the steering wheel despite high waves, find the solution. We have already collected our first pirate item, a pirate hat. We take a souvenir photo via the app, where it is perched on Captain Silvan's head. We put the hat in our digital treasure chest. Our light sailors are well on their way to becoming true pirates.
Mission message in a bottle
The app shows us that there is another pirate station very close by in Kreuzlingen. We learn at the Seemuseum: Pirates write in secret so that their letters cannot be read so easily. And real pirates send their messages by message in a bottle. One of them is in the Maritime Museum. By the Klabautermann, we want it! We set off in search of it. Found! As a reward, we receive a virtual eye patch, which we try on ourselves using the augmented reality function. With two treasures in our treasure chest, we've passed the first class of pirate school - yo-ho-ho!
Puzzles at sea
With our first class diploma in our pockets, we now set sail. The ship may not have a pirate flag, but to our delight the game continues on board. We collect a puzzle booklet from the ship's ticket office and learn how to observe with a telescope - an extremely important skill in pirate life. We decipher secret writings on black boards. With the solution words we find, we return to the ship's cash register and receive the next reward in our pirate app. How fitting: a telescope.

"Ship ahoy: the pirate school continues on board!"

Pirate Zaus
The two-and-a-half-hour boat trip goes by in a flash. When we dock and disembark in Stein am Rhein, the app shows us our next pirate post; the Lindwurm House. Here we learn how a family lived in Stein am Rhein around 1850 and are allowed to try out straw beds. Even mascot pirate Zaus took a nap here and can no longer find his striped bodysuit. We help look for it and are richly rewarded. Then we take the Thurbo regional train from Stein am Rhein back to our starting point, the port of Kreuzlingen. We are only in the first year of pirate school and have by no means found all the treasures and gold coins in the region. We'll be back, and we'll even get Jolly Roger, the pirate flag! We turn little pirates into big ones. It was fun.

Aye, Captain - pirate school is calling!
