Family holidays in Mostindien

Does the Swiss family actually know their country, especially the upper right-hand corner of Lake Constance? You already know, we're talking about Thurgau or Mostindien. And it has a lot to offer - not just apples. Idyllic, rural life, green expanses and fine culture. And everywhere you look: friendly and manageable family offers.

Apple trademark
The apple, admittedly, is the trademark of the Lake Constance canton of Thurgau. As the largest fruit grower in Switzerland, it is also very proud of this and has, among other things, the "Momö" cidery and distillery museum, which is unique in Switzerland. Here, the journey of the apple from the tree to the Shorley bottle is brought to life. In the fruit (play) garden and wild bee paradise, visitors can let off steam and observe busy insects - alone or on a guided public excursion. Parents can enjoy homemade cider specialties from the juice store in the garden.
... and fine chocolate
But Eastern Switzerland also has some very fine chocolate. Not only to eat, but also to experience! At the Chocolarium, chocolate snacking is an integral part of the experience tour, which can also be completed with Globi puzzles. Under the motto "How happiness gets into chocolate", you can take a tour of the factory and gain an insight into the production process. Children up to the age of six are admitted free of charge. At the end of the tour, you can decorate your own chocolate bar.

"After dark, it gets exciting in the museum! In the light of the flashlights, we head into the old walls."

At night in the museum
Nestled in the rural surroundings of the Thur Valley, with the estate and its animals, excellent restaurant, two museums and family rooms, the former Carthusian monastery Kartause Ittingen invites young and old to explore. Whether on the "Night at the Museum" tour, on a scavenger hunt or swinging a paintbrush in the art museum's painting studio, boredom is never an option. The second museum located here is the Ittinger Museum. It provides an insight into the former life of the silent monks. By the way, families: with the three-generation overnight stay in the Charterhouse for parents, children and grandparents, the age difference from the youngest to the oldest family member is credited to you.
... or in the Jugi
Back to the shimmering waters of Lake Constance. Here, Romanshorn Youth Hostel offers family rooms with en-suite bathrooms. It is located close to the train station and is a great starting point for cycling tours around the lake. The child-friendly facilities and a nearby outdoor pool directly on the lake ensure a good mood. Admission to the outdoor pool is free for stays of two nights or more.

"Fairytale-like beautiful or quite awkward? In a hoop skirt through Napoleon's world."

Visiting Napoleon
Arenenberg Castle and Hotel, high above Lake Constance, also delight children's hearts. The former realm of Louis Napoléon lll, the last emperor of France, can be explored on your own or on a children's costume tour of the castle. The diverse Arenenberg grounds, surrounded by wonderful nature, can be explored in a playful way with a crossword puzzle course. At the foot of the mountain, there is a barbecue and swimming area right by the lake. A children's playroom or baking with the kitchen team (on request) offer good alternatives for activities in bad weather.
Keep your head down, captain!
And while you're at the lake, hop on a boat: the Untersee and Rhine Navigation Company takes you along the varied shores. Baby carriages and bike trailers are easy to get on board and little tattoos are handed out on deck as a surprise for children. The bridge crossing at Diessenhofen is a special highlight: even the captain has to put his head down!
