Grand Tour of Switzerland

The Grand Tour is the most beautiful route for car and motorcycle road trips through Switzerland. 1,640 km full of highlights, lakes, Alpine passes and UNESCO World Heritage sites. Over 650 signs lead you past fantastic photo spots, mostly off the highway. A special highlight: more than 75 km through Thurgau with magnificent views of Lake Constance and charming villages.

Along the Untersee
The route leads past the Rhine Falls and the famous Stein am Rhein into Thurgau. The Arenenberg soon rises above the Untersee. A visit to this former exile residence of the Bonaparte family and the Napoleon Museum, one of the most beautiful and dignified houses on the lake, is a must. The landscape becomes completely idyllic on the onward journey to Kreuzlingen, where the island of Reichenau is very close and the road gently curves along the shore.
Continue along the shores of Lake Constance
Continuing along the Obersee, the lakeside road leads through the cozy harbour towns of Münsterlingen, Altnau, Güttingen, Kesswil and Uttwil to Romanshorn. Thanks to the ferry, the harbor town is the perfect connection point for excursions to the other side of Lake Constance. In Arbon, which is built on a former Roman fort, the route leaves the lake and winds its way up to the monastery town of St. Gallen with its stunning views.
Thurgau for motor fans
Thurgau scores points on the Grand Tour with top excursion destinations for motor and technology fans: the Locorama railroad adventure world in Romanshorn lets you be a train driver in the driving simulator. The Saurer Museum in Arbon has been exhibiting commercial vehicles since 1911, while the autobau Erlebniswelt in Romanshorn will delight you with racing cars from Fredy Lienhard's career - from soapboxes to Formula 1 cars.

"The Lake Constance region impresses on the Grand Tour with exciting excursion destinations and fantastic views."

The Grand Tour of Switzerland is the world's first road trip specifically for electric vehicles. With around 300 charging stations along the route, it ensures a comfortable, sustainable and carefree driving experience for over 1,600 kilometers.
Lovely hilly landscapes, medieval towns and the expanse of Lake Constance characterize the landscape. On the Grand Tour, the sights are strung together like pearls on a string. To make sure you don't miss any of these great places, photo spots are regularly signposted along the route. Incidentally, each photo spot also provides information about the special features of the location and invites you to take a playful photo.
The core route of the Grand Tour of Switzerland covers 1,643 kilometers. It links 45 top attractions, including twelve UNESCO World Heritage Sites and two biospheres as well as 22 major lakes. The Grand Tour can be driven in both directions and is marked with official signposts. The route is designed for cars and motorcycles; other vehicles must expect restrictions.
