Cycling off the bucket list on the Tour de Thurgau

Extensive orchards, sublime country estates, original museums and constant views of the wide blue: the Tour de Thurgau combines the highlights of the Swiss canton of Lake Constance on two stages and a total of around 150 kilometers. Sometimes directly along the shore, sometimes in the best panoramic position on the lake ridge, pleasure cyclists are in the right place on the Tour de Thurgau . From Horn to Weinfelden

From Horn to Weinfelden, there are always attractive stops along the way: in Arbon directly on the lake, for example, the Saurer Automobile Museum, further up the road the Möhl cider factory and in Romanshorn the autobau world of experience. The historic moated castle in Hagenwil is the perfect place for a culinary stopover. Finally, the tour continues to the pretty old town of Bischofszell, where the famous Rose Week takes place every two years.

From Weinfelden to Diessenhofen

The second part of the Tour de Thurgau leads via the largest amusement park in Switzerland, Connyland in Lipperswil, and the romantic Napoleon Castle Arenenberg down to the shores of Lake Constance. During the shipping season, the boat of the Untersee and Rhine shipping company is already waiting at the port of Kreuzlingen. So if you want to take a breather, you can transfer from land to water. On the way to Diessenhofen, Lake Constance becomes Untersee and then the Rhine. Time and again, the boat docks at picturesque villages. In Diessenhofen, a small medieval town with one of the last covered wooden bridges over the Rhine, you switch back to your bike.

Over the Seerücken to Frauenfeld

The next section of the tour is monastic, leading from the idyllic Rhine landscape over the Seerücken to the cantonal capital of Frauenfeld. The route passes the Ittingen Charterhouse in Warth. The former Carthusian monastery is now used as a seminar hotel and offers a wide range of cultural activities. The art and Ittingen museum are also housed in the historically valuable monastery buildings. The route continues along the Thur to Frauenfeld, where Fraufenfeld Castle stands as a landmark in the center of town.

Onwards to Tannzapfenland

The last section finally winds its way through the rear part of the Thurgau into the "Tannzapfenland" region on remote roads and idyllic cycle paths. The Benedictine monastery in Fischingen has been an important stop on the Way of St. James since the Middle Ages. Fischingen is the only monastery in Thurgau inhabited by monks. The monastery grounds on the upper reaches of the Murg are a heavenly place of peace and tranquillity.
