Saurer Museum

Saurer Museum
The Saurer Museum in Arbon exhibits heavy commercial vehicles, post buses, military vehicles, fire engines and petrol and diesel engines of all sizes, as well as a "Chlüpperlimaschine", a Saurer embroidery machine.
The Saurer Museum shows the history of the once world-famous company. Commercial vehicles from all generations are on display, starting with the "Caminhao" from 1911, which was brought back from Brazil and restored in 2003. The legendary "Car alpin", the post bus par excellence, a unique Zurich tramway bus, military vehicles of all types and a large engine exhibition bear witness to the pioneering spirit of the time. The textile machinery department also houses weaving and embroidery machines. The oldest, a "Chlüpperlimaschine", was constructed as early as 1860. The automatic embroidery machine S1 is controlled by a "mechanical computer" built in 1912 and embroiders wonderful St. Gallen embroideries. All the textile machines are ready for operation and can be shown in operation by experts on advance booking. The Saurer Museum is run entirely by volunteers. The vintage cars are maintained, repaired and serviced in the museum's own workshop. For this outstanding volunteer work, the Saurer Museum received the EMYA Silletto Prize in 2014, a top European award. The Saurer Museum is part of the Lake Constance Bike Rally.
