A four-poster bed in the middle of nature

Miranda Diggelmann from Wil and Jannik Artuso from Flawil spent the night in a four-poster bed at Ittingen Charterhouse - an unforgettable experience for both of them.

Close to the stars
Above us, the vast canopy of sky with an almost glaring crescent moon. "I wouldn't have thought that you could actually see all the stars so clearly in here," says my friend Jannik Artuso. "Right, and it's so incredibly bright. Just because of the moonlight," I reply. We have made ourselves comfortable on the double bed in the plastic bubble. Somewhere in deepest Thurgau, between vines and apple trees - out of sight, of course. We can still hear a few cows in the distance, but that doesn't bother us. On the contrary. "It's really idyllic here," says Jannik.
Welcome to the transparent spherical tent
As soon as we arrived at the Charterhouse, Jannik and I were shown how to use the bubble. Two nice ladies explained to us that the inner and outer entrances must never be open at the same time. "Otherwise the air will go out and the ceiling will literally fall on your head," says Corinne Rüegg Widmer, Head of Communications and Marketing at Ittingen Charterhouse. My boyfriend and I laugh because we both know that something like this could happen to us. But we managed it, and that was the only complicated thing about the plastic bubble.

"I didn't think you could actually see all the stars so clearly in here."

But where does all the air that inflates the ball from the inside come from?
Hidden behind the plastic bubble and in the trees we find a compressor under a bamboo cover. It works surprisingly quietly. We can hardly hear anything in the bubble, even though the air volume circulates once every 10 minutes. We are told that we can even regulate the temperature of the air with a switch. My thick woolen sweaters, which I took with me for fear that the interior would not be heated, are therefore superfluous.
"I'm a little excited"
After dinner, which lasted until around 10.30 pm for us gourmets, we put the plastic ball to the test for the first time. But first we brush our teeth. The toilets and bathrooms that guests of the Bubble can use are located on the grounds of the Charterhouse, just a few meters from where we were sleeping. We were given a small flashlight in case we needed to use the toilet at night. "I'm looking forward to it, but I'm also a bit excited," I say to Jannik before we enter our sleeping quarters. He just laughs and says: "You've probably never had a real adventure before."

"We're really lucky with this great weather. But rain would certainly have been exciting too."

Heavenly pleasure
So there we are, lying on our backs and staring up at the starry sky. I'm fascinated: "It kind of feels like we're lying out in the open, except that we're not." - "We're really lucky with this great weather. But rain would definitely have been exciting too," says Jannik. I tacitly agree with him and set the alarm clock so that we don't miss breakfast, although I'm sure we'll wake up early anyway: After all, we don't have any shutters or anything like that here. A while later, we fall asleep.
Late riser
My alarm clock rings at exactly 8.30 am. Jannik and I both slept through the night and didn't wake up before my cell phone rang, despite the brightness that must have set in early. "Otherwise you can never sleep when it's light," says Jannik. Where he's right, he's right. The bed was probably more comfortable than average.

"We will definitely be back."
We get dressed and head to the breakfast buffet. Even as absolute breakfast fans, we are impressed. A generous selection of freshly baked breads, fruit, yogurt, sweet and savory. We are happy and order a latte macchiato to go with it. We look out of the window while we eat. It's raining now. "The experience would probably have been very different in this weather," says Jannik. Who knows - but we'll definitely be back. We all agree on that.
