Typorama

Typorama
The Typorama in Bischofszell is a typographic museum and at the same time a production facility where printed products are still produced using the fascinating lead typesetting technique and where this technique can be experienced first-hand during guided tours. It is located below the historic old town.
A manual typesetting shop houses hundreds of type sets in eight aisles. Thirteen different types of lead setting machines are also fully operational. In the machine room there is a toggle lever manual press, two Boston manual platen presses, seven rapid platen presses of various types, a rapid stop cylinder press, two automatic stop cylinder presses (one of which is vertical), two single-turn presses and a two-turn press. The collection is rounded off by the first phototypesetting machines to replace lead typesetting. In addition, a complete bookbindery enables the production of books. You can either visit the Typorama for a simple tour or book a complete guided tour with aperitif. The museum is also open to children every Wednesday afternoon. The little ones can lend a hand and set and print their own texts and pictures under supervision. In the workshops, you can learn not only linocut or bookbinding, but even how to operate a typesetting or printing machine.
