Just like in the old days, the silhouettes of the night watchmen can still be seen in Bischofszell today. Each evening before the new moon, they take the original route through the dark alleyways.

Until 1940, the night watchmen in baroque Bischofszell were on the town's payroll. Although they were still used as fire guards, they eventually had to make way for the modern fire department, and the town policeman took over the security service. Nevertheless, the tradition lives on in Bischofszell. From April to October, the night watchmen walk through the alleyways of the town on the evening before the new moon, accompanied by two watchmen, following the route description of the old night watchman's oath. In addition to the sung call of the hour, stories from old Bischofszell can be heard. The night watchmen and doormen appreciate being accompanied by guests on their tours. The tour lasts 1 ¼ hours and takes place in all weathers. Groups can book their own tours.
