The exhibition focuses thematically on the motif of the night sky - because looking at the stars not only connects all people, but also all generations of mankind.
What does "outsider art" mean? To what extent is it outside our classical art system with its fixed orbits and fixed stars - or is it a natural part of our galaxy today? An exploratory flight to the edges of the art universe. The exhibition combines established artists such as Ferdinand Hodler, Helen Dahm and Roman Signer with Art Brut or so-called "outsider art". In this field of tension, the question arises as to the extent to which pictorial inventions differ and whether the "label" also influences the view and classification. The Kunstmuseum Thurgau has been collecting art by people on the fringes of society and outside the art system since the 1970s, constantly posing new questions about the viewing habits, expectations and attributions of the public. The rich collection provides historical and contemporary insights into the subject matter. At the same time, statements by experts in the field of Outsider Art are woven into the atmospherically dense staging of this exhibition. They broaden the horizon of observation in a light-footed way. "Evergreens" such as Adolf Dietrich and Hans Krüsi are juxtaposed with contemporary positions such as Ghislaine Ayer and Boscovic-Scarth, as well as a guest contribution by Nik Garbini. Nik Garbini has been working at the Living Museum Kreuzlingen for over 10 years - an open studio that is also a place of exchange where people with and without disabilities are artistically active and thus a living example of today's work in this field. The exhibition focuses thematically on the motif of the night sky - because looking at the stars not only connects all people, but also all generations of mankind. With works from the collections of Ghislaine Ayer, Laila Bachtiar, Frieda Blaser, Ulrich Bleiker, Boskovic-Scarth, Anny Boxler, François Burland, Ignacio Carles-Tolrà, Helen Dahm, Adolf Dietrich, Willi Hartung, Ferdinand Hodler, Sarah Hugentobler, Franz Kamlander, Hans Krüsi, Moshe Maurer, Margrit Schlumpf-Portmann, Elisabeth Schroer, Roman Signer and Helmut Wenczel. Guest contribution: Niklaus Garbini (Living Museum Kreuzlingen)
