Seeking the distance

Seeking the distance
The exhibition features works by Eric Engeler, Barbara Hennig Marques, Kollektiv RAM (Regula Weber/Antonia Hersche/Maria Bill) and Daniel Züsli.
Let your gaze wander into the distance, set off, go traveling - the wide world offers many opportunities to broaden your horizons, both in reality and in your imagination. But what consequences does traveling have for the environment and society? How and where can today's places of longing be determined, found and visited? In addition to such voluntary decisions to set off, there are also situations that force people to seek the distance, to take flight. The exhibition explores artistic approaches to this topic in the field of tension between meanings. By playing with color contrasts and chiaroscuro, Eric Engeler creates the illusion of the depth of space and time on a picture surface. Using the acrylic copying technique on paper, he creates a random effect that he further shapes by painting. Extrospection and introspection are in constant dialog and drive the realization of the pictures. Eric Engeler's paintings are windows into the universe of his own observations, feelings and decisions. In her works,Barbara Hennig Marques explores the boundaries between reality and imagination, nature and memory, longing and movement. The interactive VR installation PFERDINAND, for example, plays with girls' fascination with horses - between dream and escapism. It immerses the viewer in a virtual world that raises questions about escape and addiction in a way that is as playful as it is serious. How do we react to the unknown? In the site-specific installation TRICKLE, the RAM collective works with the ambivalence of invasion. It begins in the attic, pushes through the cracks of the house through all floors to the first floor, where it assembles into a monolithic form. The vibrating sounds of a sound collage reinforce the strange, mysterious atmosphere. The sculptor DanielZüsli often uses his art to subversively infiltrate social discourse or the art world. He sees his sculptures and installations as tools that invite reference. For him, the search for distance is an intervention in familiar structures and norms - an artistic practice that refuses, withdraws and deforms things in order to encourage pause and create space for new perspectives.
